There are three intrinsic characteristics of ring springs:
- Ring springs are used when weight or space is at a premium. Ring Springs have a very high capacity per pound of spring weight or per
cubic inch of spring volume. - Oscillations and harmonic vibrations are dampened by the natural
friction of the spring. - The travel and the spring constant are easily changed by adding and/or removing rings without affecting the ultimate compression or release force.
Lubrication
In order to reduce wear on the friction surfaces Ashby coats all of the conical surfaces with a heavy graphite grease. This coating also insures smooth action for the ring spring and reduces heat due to friction.
